Dead End Train Words and music by Jon Pozzuto 1. It was a cold November night when the train first passed me by Could have sworn I saw your face in glow of the flickering light I put down my bottle of wine, rubbed the dust out of my eyes But the train just kept on rolling, right out of my mind Like the dreams that disappeared as we lost track of time Riding the rails of wasted years, I never got what’s mine Chorus There’s a dead-end train that Only comes out at night Snakes through the subway Below the city lights I had the misfortune Of being taken for a ride Barreling past the train yard Where the lost souls go to die 2. The tunnels wind on forever, through the city past the countryside Past the glimmer of fading hope that’s long gone from your eyes Past the point of no return, you slipped away and died I’ll ride this train forever with your ghost pulling at my side Like the dreams that disappeared as we lost track of time I stepped inside that misery train, disappeared into the night Chorus Bridge Gone are the days of glory, in the twilight of our youth Hard to see the good times go, it was sad to face the truth Gone are the days of romance, cheap perfume, and wine The makeup’s running down your face, but the train pulls in on time Chorus Barreling past the train yard on a cold November night Better think twice

Love and Death Words and music by Jon Pozzuto 1. Why summer’s sweetness fades away I guess I’ll never know Hard to watch you pack your bag Worse to see you go You left me standing in the dark In this room alone Cuts like every time before Just deeper to the bone And the promises that you gave me Take them back into the night Chorus Our dreams crumbled and fell to earth like stardust from the sky Swept off in the bitter salt of the ever-rising tide Thoughts of hope soon crawled away, then curled up and died Down an old forgotten path where love and death collide 2. How do you pass the time When you’re awake at night? Do you ever think of me When something ain’t quite right? You won’t end up forgotten But I can’t pretend you care I’ll keep my fondest memories Locked away somewhere And that sweetness you forbade me I don’t need it anymore Chorus Bridge If I could find the words to say To make you change your mind Would the embers fade away In the face of borrowed time Do the nights spent in your arms Stand for anything Do the tears you say you cried Even mean a thing, anymore Chorus Love and death collide
3.
Cemetery Grove Words and music by Jon Pozzuto 1. It felt too good to be in your arms again From fractured promises came breaks too bad to mend And as the blood flows out of a heart, that you broke like glass I’ll wither like a dying plant, thrown out with the trash With no more expectations, or fires left to tend It’s the charred remains of burned-out love, in the bitter end Chorus There’s an orange grove past the cemetery that no one knows about Where fireflies line the path of vines as the setting sun fades out See the yellow glow of a lantern, and a library made of stone Empty, damp, covered in moss, where I go to dream alone 2. From a tower of broken dreams, empty promises and lies I watched you play games below, like a creature of the night From a dirty hotel window, 100 stories high Looking out on the vast terrain of another last goodbye I hesitate to take your hand, but I’m soaked to the bone Let me sit by your fire, before I’m back out there alone Chorus Bridge Trying to find the key to your heart’s like sliding off an icy road Submerged in a frozen current, complete loss of control As I sink to the frigid depths, there water in my lungs A pale glimmer of the mess you’ve made, the person you’ve become Chorus

Valley of Empty Cities Words and music by Jon Pozzuto 1. In the valley of empty cities I can’t make up my mind In these caverns of sorrow I wander endlessly blind The structures are crumbling down The path’s been beaten by a steady line Of all those who walked before me Just dust scattered across time Chorus There’s a secret window There’s some broken glass This used to be a forest Now it’s a sea of trash Beyond the vacant skyline Were once cities of gold With the dying generations The stories remain untold 2. The memories are stored away Like marbles in a jar The sun sets on a dusty street As I wonder where you are The cornfield’s dead, full of rats There’s a stench inside the barn I roam these barren outskirts As the mysteries lose their charm Chorus Bridge Play me an ancient melody That the elders left behind Fires fade in the midnight skies Where the children have gone blind Tell me a little tale of When we filled ourselves with wine Twilight seeps through the fruitless trees Must have rotted off the vine Chorus Secret window Broken glass Just a sea of trash

about

Valley of Empty Cities is the debut EP release by singer/songwriter and guitarist Jon Pozzuto. Recorded at Hoboken Recorders in the winter of 2022, Valley of Empty Cities offers a varied glimpse into the artist’s unique vision. The release gathers influence from a variety of unlikely sources: gritty, streetwise rockers such as Lou Reed and Dee Dee Ramone, poetic lyricists and songsmiths such as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, alongside the guitar mastery of players such as Leslie West, Johnny Thunders and Jimi Hendrix. Valley of Empty Cities sees Jon taking on the role as sole composer and arranger of the material, as well as providing all vocal and instrumental performances in the studio, apart from drums.

In addition to contributing to an array of independent releases throughout his career, Jon has recorded for Warner Bros. and Atlantic Records. He began performing professionally at age 14 in clubs such as New York’s famed CBGB and later studied music at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, also in his native New York City. Jon has toured Japan twice, made television appearances throughout Europe and Asia, and his guitar playing has been heard globally on FM radio, as well as numerous features on SiriusXM.

Jon currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and performs and tours regularly. He teaches guitar privately and is a graduate student within the music department at CUNY Hunter College.
